Pale lagers are members of a family of pale to golden colored beers. They are distinguished by their well-attentuated body and noble hop bitterness. This beer family developed from a brewing process perfected in the mid 1800s by Gabriel Sedlmayr in the Spaten Brewery in Germany. The majority of beers made around the world are of this type. Frequently they use cereals such as rice or maize as additonal ingredients to lighten the body of the beer. Such adjunct-based beers are not as strong-tasting as many other altenatives of beer, but their comparative mildness is favored by many throughout the world.
