Specialty beers

Although there are only two types of beer – lager or ale – thousands of unique types of beer are created through different combinations of ingredients and added flavors. Adding fruit, vegetables, spices, etc. to both lagers and ales enables brewers to create unique beer with flavors like cherry wheat, chilli and pumpkin spice, for example. In fact just about anything goes in specialty beers! People will use spices, fruit juices, candy, and almost anything else you can think of!

Specialty beers, by and large, are brewed with top fermenting yeast and consequently classified as “ales“. Most commonly their unique tastes are created by adding the flavor to the hop mash during the brewing process.
